The press releases had already been prepared when the planes hit the WTC towers. You can bet that the US government conspiracy theory that Al Quaeda did it, is the least likely theory.
According to the reputable physists I've talked to, the buildings would not have fallen at the speed of gravity, unless the entire support structure was compromised. That points to a planned demolition. Physics Professor Steven Jones and others have excellent evidence that supports a planned demolition. The biased experts have been obfuscating and have no credible theory to support the official version. The pancake theory would take at least five times longer than the collapse actually took. Some say it would have taken much longer.
The fact is, a thorough investigation has been blocked by high level officials in the Bush administration. Forensics were done on a select sample of steel beams. The majority were recycled completely within just three weeks.
We do not know who is responsible for 9/11/2001, however, we know it took governement incompetence or complicity for the conspiracy to succeed. At minimum, there are many documented cases of government coverups.

Surely, you jest? Of course, you must know that Usama Bin Laden's Al Qaeda is responsible. They plotted, trained, funded, staffed and executed the 9/11 attacks. A man named Khalid Shiek Mohammed, now in US custody at Guatanemo Bay, Cuba brought the idea to Bin Laden, who approved it and tasked KSM with its execution. You should read the 9/11 Commision report for all the details (as should every American). I also highly recommend the movie United 93 if you truly want to see the type of thing that happened that day (if you're old enough to see it - rated R).
