I love the advice you've been given so far. You can most certainy take anything and make it your own. That being said, you can try looking at Aida, A Raisin in the Sun, The Color Purple, Roots, & Ragtime.

good luck

I agree that you've been given some very good advice here. I am, however, always amazed at young black actors - and as pointed out above, ANY actors - who are not aware of the Century Cycle collection by August Wilson. Although he died fairly recently, black green or purple, he had my vote for America's greatest living playwright. And now may be The Best, period. These are Great plays and I am always stunned that they are so seldom mentioned. Treat yourself to brilliant writing, and read his work.

You're going to have to decide if you're:

A black actor

or

An actor who happens to be black.

A true actor can be any race. There's nothing that says Romeo has to be white. There's nothing that says Macbeth is not asian. Don't worry about what color you are or what color a person playing a part is supposed to be. Find a monologue or soliloquy that you like and ACT!
