I think that poets are all in that boat. (I love Eliot!) What does it mean to be a poet? The best ones are known best, treasured more, and mean more after they're dead. So they have the experience of being a poet, but very rarely do they get to hear how often they've touched someone, how much their words mean to others, if they've been able to change someone's life somehow -- all of these things help give life here on Earth meaning.

There are so many deeper meanings I become aware of as I mature.
Experiences I've had when I was caught up in the moment....(.good, bad, and ugly)that once enough time has past the reality of the experience shone through upon revisiting the memory.
I like that this question has put into context for me,that I am no longer bound to my earlier years in hindering ways.......I suddenly see that I am far enough removed from "then" to casually take another look.=)

The first (and only) time I was in love. I felt the most powerful love in the world for him, and he felt the same way about me, but I identified it as "brotherly love", since that had been my only frame of reference up that point. After a while he had to give up, because I clearly wasn't "getting it", and I lost him forever. This is a great quote for that...thank you.
