I know Clear Channel had a lot to do with those good stations disappearing, but still...radio sucks now. It's 99.9% pop and "R&B" (note the quotes, half that crap isn't real R&B).

I live in Connecticut and we only have 2 rock stations, but one that comes in real good. There is another one Boston, but is blocked out by some R&B station.

I like a variety of music, but I prefer heavier stuff. i will on occasion listen to a good R&B station that plays the real stuff but, really..what happened to the radio?

(I know the obvious solution is to get satellite radio, but that's not an option now)

buffster54, it's ok. I remember radio in the early 80s wasn't so bad either, I even miss AM radio as far as what they call "soft rock" or adult rock now. Basically, I miss radio before they Clear Channel effed it up, before this thing called Top 40 got big

I do! The rock/alternative station plays more classic than anything else, and my daughter's walkie-talkies have more power than that station! There's a great station about 2 1/2 hours away, which of course has their power generated by a hamster on a wheel! lol But you can hear friggin Britney Spears and Beyonce on the moon! WTF! Thank God for my MP3 player and some really good music sites.

What I REALLY miss is the Album Oriented Rock (AOR) stations that were around in the late Sixties. Detroit had three of 'em that are legendary. They would choose just ANY song from a vinyl record (real old school) and play it for the masses. The DJ's were cool and laid back, you NEVER heard the same song twice, and the commercials were few. No wonder I'm crabby!!

I absolutely omit them. right here interior the SF bay section, there replaced right into a minimum of 5 rock/option stations yet now there is in worry-free words one, KITS one hundred and 5.3. The others became into Spanish language stations. a minimum of one hundred and 5.3 performs a sturdy type of indie and mainstream rock. when I lived interior the Sacramento section, the in worry-free words rock station there performed an same 15 songs repeatedly. it is, till it fell and became right into a "random" radio station (AKA 80s-90s oldies) and each fifth music replaced into an old U2 music, no longer so random!

Yeah... my favorite rock station got replaced with some stupid Spanish station... >.>; I listened to until the minute it went offline... the last song on it was Nirvana - Smells Like Teen Spirit, the exact same song that was the first song they played on it.
