I sprayed the termals of my car with WD40 and then it dawned on me how flammable it is ... can anyone tell me what (if anything) do I need to make sure a spark doesn't lead to a fire/ explosion? Corrosion is gone ... I cleaned it up as well as I could ...and the car statred without a prob. Am I worried for no reason -- or do I need to use something to clean the battery to avoid the big bang? Thanks!! Dan

No, it won't blow up, but WD-40 isn't the proper way to clean terminals. Use a proper terminal brush, then coat the terminals with vaseline before clamping back on. If you want the quick and easy way, pour a can of Coke on them and rinse it off

Your worried for no reason. If your battery is really slimy wet with WD40 then just hose it off and let it dry. I use WD40 all the time and I suppose if you sprayed it over or into an open flame it would be dangerous but not a little bit on your battery terminals.

'Don't worry!' Baking soda and warm water is what you clean a battery with, horse hair scrub brush and then flush with clean water, this will neutralise corrosion/battery acid at the battery terminals. They sell battery terminal Protestant at the parts stores. NOTE; No Greases, Oils or the like "Dust & Dirt Magnet" Major power drain reason!

Thanks so much for all the information. Some of it we knew about, but the shower door is a must try! I've tried all kinds of products on the shelf, vinegar, alcohol, etc. I am about to try Purple Power, baking soda and WD-40 (separately). We've tried for years to get the water residue from the shower door and the only thing that I find works is scraping my fingernails over it (not very efficient).

no it won't. explosions and/or fire need an ignition source. it is dried out by now. the most flamable part of the wd40 from a spray can is the propellant used to push it out of the can, and that evaporates almost instantly.

Just mix some soda in water and pore on the terminal next time. Cleans it completely clean. :)

No, but don't let the mist hit anything hot or you could have a small fire.
