You can vote for anyone in the general election. You are limited to a party line vote for the primary.

In the general election, you can vote for anyone you want from any party. Party registration only deals with primaries and caucuses and even then some states allow you to cross party lines in primaries.

In general elections you can vote for anybody you want, including candidates outside of your party. Primaries, of course, are limited by party affiliation.

Of Course, next year everybody will be doing that. The Republicans make believe they are democrats and vote for an unelectable democrat candidate in their states primary. The democrats will vote for an unelectable republican. Hillary could become the next John Kerry, Rudy, the next barry Goldwater

Yes, you may vote for whomever you want in the general election. That applies to all races, governor, congress or whatever you have in your area.

The only reason you have to declare a party in the Primaries is to keep you from voting in both parties.
