I have a BIG problem with it. I am a non-smoker. However, I feel that businesses, such as restaurants, should be allowed to choose whether they wish to allow smoking or not. Quite frankly, if customers don't like cigarette smoke, they can go to a place that is smoke free. It interferes with business. Also, on forums such as university campuses, it is discriminatory. The US Supreme Court has ruled, over and over again, that you may not make someone's Status (such as alcoholism or drug addiction) a crime. To ban smoking on a college campus, where students must actually reside, punishes them for their Status.
Please note: The University Arkansas will be entirely tobacco free on January 1, 2008. Students will not even be able to smoke in their own dorm rooms or other "on campus housing". Not only will people not be able to smoke in buildings, but may not smoke in their cars which are parked on campus.

As a smoker, I was very cross to wake up this morning and hear that smoking in my car - which I do frequently - is now banned. No notice, no warning. My car is not a company car, I rarely have passengers (and if I do, I don't smoke) and I don't dispose of my cigarettes out of my window. I have been smoking longer than I have been driving, and I can easily find and light a cigarette without taking my eyes off the road - I find it more distracting trying to change the radio station. And in 15 years of smoking whilst driving, I have never once dropped a cigarette in my lap. After a bit of research, however, I discovered that smoking is not banned, as such - it is simply against advice. If you are driving dangerously, committing a driving offence or involved in an accident whilst smoking, then you are going to face a more serious penalty. However, smoking in your car is considered inadvisable rather than illegal and a contributary factor if you do something wrong. So, I shall still be happily lighting up whilst driving - it's about the only place I can smoke without pissing someone off nowadays.

I love the smoking ban! I shouldn't be forced to smell that nasty smoke. And to smokers who think they have a 'right' to smoke: no you don't. It's bad for you.
And I am glad more and more states are banning restaurants from having a 'smoking' section. The whole place reeks even if only one smoker is there. Smoke drifts, you know...

Smoking shouldn't be regulated by the government. Public places most of all shouldn't be regulated. If someone is walking down the street and (s)he decides to smoke, then so be it. If I don't want to be around it, I'll move somewhere else. Restaurants, bars, and other privately owned businesses shouldn't be told what their patrons are allowed to do or not do, that should be up to the owner(s).
Whatever happened to individuals making their own decisions? If you don't like being around something, don't subject yourself to it. It's pretty simple.

As a smoker, I have always respected others. I don't even smoke in my own house because my husband doesn't smoke-(he quit a few years back). It's my choice to go outside, he tells me not to. I don't have a problem with not smoking in public places because it does bother people who do not smoke-----AS LONG, as there is a place to go outside and smoke. Yes, it is bad for me and I wish I had never started 18 years ago-- I also wish it wasn't as addictive as heroin! I wish the tobacco companies had not added things to make people become SO addicted to smoking. I wish I had a million dollars, I wish I didn't have to go to work tomorrow....
I realized I was starting to ramble on--sorry.

It's all about choices. That's what America is supposed to be about. When you ban smoking you are taking away a persons choice to smoke. When you ban it from public places you are taking away the owners choice to allow it.
If the people who don't smoke have a problem, they don't have to go out to eat at that restaurant who allows it. It's their choice also.

I think the government needs to quit sending double messages and either make it illegal because it's dangerous, or treat it like a legal activity and quit regulating and taxing it to death.
I don't smoke, by the way, I'm just offended by the government pushing around private citizens engaged in a currently legal activity.

No, we as smokers have our right to smoke. If non-smokers dont want to breath it in well dont sit in the smoking section at McDonalds. Isn't American suppose to stand for freedom??? Where the heck is my freedom at?? It's like this, this world is too big outside for my smoking to bother someone.

Smoking should be banned.
Smoking is unhealthy. If a person smokes, it's his or her problem - no one else should suffer from it.
Smoking should be made illegal. period. I see any reason keeping it legal.
