Run thorough checks on all the connections to make sure that they all work before letting people use them cos it is very annoying when computers don't work properly.

Trying to be as concise as I can:

You need:
1) A Network Interface Card in every machine.
2) Network Cabling matched to the rating of the NIC probably CAT 5/5e/6 RJ45 Ethernet.
3) Depending on the size of the office a switch, hub, repeaters.
4) You need to decide how you are going to provide file and printer sharing (dedicated servers and network printers etc.)
5) Are you going to set up an adhoc or client/server network.
6) Will policies and permissions be set locally or via a Domain controller.
7) What level of security is required. Encryption of critical files. Internet security. Social Engineering etc etc.

I would advise that you can probably get to stage 4 or 5 quite easily following advice on MS Knowledge base. After that its a bit more tricky and I wouldn't be happy leaving a home network without it being secure. Leaving a business network unsecure would therefore be a big no no. If you get to that point and struggle get someone in who knows. CompTIA, Novell or Microsoft qualified and they should do a good job for you.

Well that very much depends on quite a number of things.....
How many PC's will be in the network, What kind of internet connection (if any), Will this be a internal or external network........
I ask this because some networks don't connect to the internet at all. Is it merely to provide communication between operators in the office?, or via the intrnet to other departments/ offices..............
The things you will need will be a NIC in every PC on the network, one or more HUBS, Switches , Repeaters, terminators(not of the mr. shwarzenegger kind), net work cables(crossover and straight through),routers.........
and if its to be wireless, oh, wireless access points etc etc etc.............
For a job like this, get a pro in, very very complicated for a novice, or even an amateur...........This is not a question that can be answered from a 15 word question.........
sorry, but I hope this helps...........

Use wireless technology if you can, by doing this, you only need to install wireless network cards in each of the computers. No lengthy cable runs to worry about!
