Don't know much about the prarie region, although I am guessing it would be mostly agricultural.
As far as the great lakes, Here in michigan we have copper mining in the u.p. we have have or had all sorts of manufacturing, and we have the grat lakes shipping industry.
we also have a nestle water plant on the shore of Lake michigan that makes and distributes it;s bottled water.
Yes that bottled water your drinking from nestle corporation is nothing but lake michigan water.
