At one point in my life, yes I did feel that way. Not now.
I am 24 and bought my home 2 years ago. I thought that would make me set for life and get one of my big accomplishments out of the way. But it's not all it is cracked up to be!
The mortgage payment, the up-keep, the insurance, etc. It's always something extra that you're having to pay for. I dearly miss being able to call a maintenance man that will come and fix it for free just because it's his job. OLwning a home is a load of responsibility! It makes you no less of a person if you never own your own home. It shouldn't define you as a person=)

No. Life is more than owning a home.

No. You can never be a failure at life for not completing the goal of buying some material thing, cuz that's not what life is about. I think most of us agree on that. :)

No way! That thought never crossed my mind. There are so many things I'd like to get done in my life, but that's definitely not one of them. Well, it would be nice to have my own home, but that alone would not make me feel complete.

What would make me feel good about myself would be to create something that makes a difference even when I'm gone. Something that expresses who I am, and what I can do. And what I spent my life trying to be good at. Something people can look at and say, "look at what she did!" Something that 'll touch their hearts like so many things have touched mine... sigh!

I don't consider myself a failure. I haven't owned a home yet. Too much repsonsibility.

perhaps, but i wouldn't know, cuz i've been a homeowner since I was 20.

and to Julie, that's not entirely true...i'm 30, i'm 5 years shy of owning the home I'm in now... and my house is worth $240K more than what I owe, so not only do I own my house, I can profit outright from it...most people don't pay their house off because it's a bigger tax write off if they owe a little

no
nobody ever owns their own place
at least not in the US
it's a trick to make you think you own something
if you don't pay or if you do something wrong or if they need that land for something else
they just kick you out
you don't really own your own place
