If you bought the alternator at Autozone, it should have been expected to go bad within 2000 miles. Look for a loose connection to the alternator fuse, under the power distribution box. That area under there is well known for corrosing on the early 90s Camaro.

Wizard In order to save yourself time and expensive repairs it sounds like the battery needs attention at the ground wire which is at the minus side of your battery, check for obvious signs of corrosion at the terminals of both areas the positive and negative sides. You probably have the newer type of alternator but the ground wire is at the back of it that wire is red in color so loosen it up and gently clean it out with an old toothbrush then reconnect it,also check the 2 wire plug for a loose or broken wire at that spot with a voltmeter set it at the correct range. GOOD LUCK

Yes the engine has to be grounded properly for the alternator to work properly 16 year old cars can have lots of bad ground. DID you also replace the battery inside the battery it can have a bad ground too!

Clean the negative battery cable to engine connection. Also clean the neg batt cable to body connection. Clean the engine to firewall connection.
Also, is the battery dead in the morning? That could be a stuck relay causing a drain. Then the alternator would have to work extra hard to recharge the battery and that's not good for it.

Engine block to fire wall ground strap, Alternator to block ground, Bad /warn wiring battery to alternator, belt tension to tight, Battery hooked up wrong after installing new alternator weakens alternator. Battery Hook up is; battery ground cable first then positive!

If the belt is too tight it will ruin the bearings throwing the shaft off center.
If the regulator is external to the alternator it might be sending a signal to make high output causing premature failure.
