My mother just recently retired from the family business after 30+ years of working for herself. About 2 years before retiring she started to invest into dividend stocks.
Dividend stocks are a nice small income that you could look at. Though it's not the "biggest" amount of cash you get per quarter, your money is invested in a B share stock.
Currently she gets about $12k in dividend stocks a year, so thats a nice amont to go with her social security and other stuff that she has.
I tell her that investing in such items like tech stocks would be to risky for her. I tell her not to invest in aggressive stock and move money to safer income earning stocks. This way she doesn't loose her money on high risk items. Dividend stocks are a good safe way of getting income. Black Rock is one that earns about 8%. Thats pretty good considering what rates you see these days. There are some dividend earning stocks that are 10-12% earnings. Ask a broker about that or start looking around for those. They are a good way of saving money and earning it at the same time.

Good luck!

You could always retire overseas in some place like Mexico. Your money will go father, they have great health benefits and a warm climate. With more money available to you by reducing your living cost (assuming you live in the US), you will be able to travel more frequently. Check out this website on retiring. http://www.internationalliving.com

Good Luck!

my brother worked 30 years on ONE job and retired.... spent 9 months working around the house, cleaning, things like that he wanted to get done.... then got so bored he's been working full time on a new job ever since. lol

the key is, this job he likes, and he's there cause he wants to be, not because he has too (needs the money).

at 61 he will leave it and retire for good when social security kicks in.

Retirement = you don't HAVE to work to pay the bills. I NEVER plan to stop working.

I've always thought that I'd do the peace corps, especially if I don't end up married. Of course, I might do it anyway.
