A difficult choise, but I think I'll have to go with The Mists of Avalon by Marion Zimmer Bradley. It deals with Arthurian legend, a favorite topic of mine, and is wonderfully written. I also love The Song of the Lioness series by Tamora Pierce, it's a long-time favorite of mine.

BLADE (the series) by Jeffery Lord.

He's the only guy in the world who can visit other dimensions. He arrives there naked, takes on the villains, wins, gets the girl. And when all is said and done, just about to share love with the lady, is pulled back to the present.

Sorry bugger! Easy reading and fun as well. British humor of sorts. Can be found in used book stores. Over 30 in the series.

Tolkien's "Hobbit" and "Lord of the Rings" books remain the standard by which all other fantasy books are measured.
Others
"A Canticle for Liebowitz" by Walter M Miller
"A World of Difference" by Harry Turtledove
The Black Jewels Trilogy by Anne Bishop and the Kushiel books by Jacqueline Carey are wonderful books too but are definitely for adults (sorry I don't know how old your are).

The Weirdstone of Brisingamen or The Owl provider by skill of Alan Garner are the two a solid examine. The trilogy His dark components (Northern lights, diffused Knife, Amber Spyglass) by skill of Phillip Pullman is likewise nicely worth finding at formerly its subtlety is battered into the floor by skill of Hollywood. i'd upload my call to the record of those recommending Terry Pratchett (my specific favourites are the books related to the Watch, and loss of life and his granddaughter, Susan). LOTR, of direction, however i did not end that till after my fortieth birthday (I used to locate each and every of the long lists of elven names too annoying going).... And a prior due contender... The Gormenghast trilogy by skill of Mervyn Peake -- splendidly strange.

Gregor the Overlander
by Suzanne Collins.

It's about this boy who discovers a whole world underneath New York City. The people down there think he is a warrior that has been prophecied to help them and although he doesn't believe it, he goes on their quest because he finds out his dad has been kidnapped by the giant rats that are the "bad guys".

What I love about it is that Gregor really struggles with the ideas of good and evil, and not all the good characters are 100% good and not all the bad characters are 100% bad. It makes him think about the impossibility of making blanket generalizations about people's character.
