My friend just gave birth to her first baby! I'd love to visit them ASAP. He was born 2 days ago, Friday. Would it be okay to visit this coming week? Everyone's healthy. TIA!

Very helpful answers -- thanks! I'll definitely call ahead, esp. since she had to have a C-section. I expect to be put to work, anyway :-)

Considering people were visiting me and my baby in the hospital the day after she was born; I'd say if mommy is up for visitors and no one is sick, its ok. I'd call her and ask, let her be the one to determine if its ok. Parents all have different views about visitors.

It is so refreshing to have someone ask before assuming that a new mother wants to be bombarded with visitors while she's in the hospital!!! Kudos to you!
Best thing to do is call the hospital and speak to the maternity ward nurse and ask her if your friend is awake and feels up to taking a phone call. Then ask your friend if she wants you to drop by. This way you are not interfering with her much deserved rest and you'll know for sure if she's up to visitors. Also unless she tells you the first few months it is definately better to call ahead before showing up since a baby's schedule is so erratic and mom is trying to snag a nap wherever she can since she's up all hours of the night with baby.

When I had both of my kids, we had people come over the day we got home from the hospital. You should just make sure that the new parents are up to guests

Sure.
I mean, ask the parents first of course, but if they say yes there's no reason not to.
