For me, the negative was some weight gain and the positive was a regular cycle. If you anticipate the weight gain, you can just change around your habits to try to avoid it. Altogether, a very positive experience.
And No, it will not prevent you from having children in the future... that's just ridiculous.

I'm still having some nausea and breast tenderness. Right now as we speak, actually. :/ Those are supposed to go away within the first few months, though.
They can also cause complications like increased migraine frequency, decreased sex drive, dry eyes, weight gain/loss, increased moodiness and (rarely) strokes. Positives include lighter, shorter, less painful periods, clearer skin, a more regular menstrual cycle, and (of course) not getting pregnant! There are also myths about birth control causing breast cancer and complications in pregnancy, but neither one of these claims has any scientific evidence. For most people, the positives outweigh the negatives. If not, at least there's a whole world of other contraceptives to choose from!

I've been on a few:
Depo: DO NOT DO THIS! Horrible shot, I gained a lot of weight (and no it wasn't increased appetite, as a majority of women experience this as well), had horrible mood swings, loss of libido. The ONLY good things were I didn't have a period and it was a shot every three months. Google "depo provera lawsuit" and check out its reviews in my source to see how horrible it is. I experienced them immediately and when I stopped the shot and went to Kariva (pill) it took a while for my side affects to dissipate.
Kariva (pill): Low dose hormone drug, LOVE THIS. I have ZERO side affects. My weight is coming off YAY, I have my libido back! and my mood swings are not that bad at all! Every woman is different so you may suffer side affects, but I personally have not!

I started biting people as soon as I took them, then a few weeks later I would just punch people in the face, now I'm ok, unless someone says the number 9.

everybody is effected differently.
the most common are:
-weight gain
-breast size increases
-butt size increases
-scheduled periods
-lessens the "flow"
-decreases amount of time you have your period
-decreases acne
thats all i can think of for now.

For me:
Positive--not pregnant, less pimples after the first month, scheduled period (handy for vacations)
Negative--no weight change (I didn't gain, but I didn't lose either), more intense (though shorter) PMS, more intense (though shorter) period, hair loss during the first month, more pimples during the first month
