Alright, Heres The Deal...Im 17 Years Old & Not Happy With My Living Situation. Im Being Held Back From The Things That Could Help Me With My Future & Im Treated As The Lowest Life Form On The Planet. Im Not Abused, Im Not Neglected, I Just Want To Get On With My Life & Have My Freedom (With Limitations Ofcourse). My Question To You Is Can I Legally Walk Out At The Age Of 17? Would The Police Get Involved? Would I Have To go Thru Court? Would I Be Listed As A Runaway? I Know In Some States The Runaway Laws Dont Effect Adolesence Who Are 17 Years Of Age. So What Should I Do? How Should I Go About Things? Either Way Im Out Of Here And Id Rather Be Smart About It And Do It The Right Way Instead Of Dissappearing. HELP.

If you just walk out then you will be treated as a runaway. I'm not familiar with RI laws, but here in CA you would be able to emancipate yourself. This would require you to go to court, and prove that you can support yourself, including having a job and a place to live. Try to find free legal clinics in your area, and ask a lawyer what exactly you need to do.

I am completely with you. Im a sensible person and want to try to stay but every time they(guardians) talk and ask questions and yap and try to make you what they want you to be, it reminds you thats I have to leave.Im not abused, not neglected, I just want to make my own decisions, and tired of being treated like property like Im some kind of trophy, Its
insulting.
I ran away at 16 ,went to the city and naively tried to get back into the system I was trying to leave.Ended up back where I left( thanks to the police).Word of advice carry ID, some money, and DONT MOVE TO THE CITY if youre going be homeless, move somewhere low key and save up some money.
I would be patient until Im 18 meaning I will still leave but dont be to stressed to get a job that pays more than minimum.Make at least enough to buy food.As for living , buy a tent and camp in the woods near a river or lake ( find a good area to settle on google maps, or local.live.com), get small jobs that dont ask too much information. Do that for a year and then you'll be 18. Just try to keep yourself alive until you're 18.

If your parents aren't going to call the cops on you and you can find a nice landlord that doesn't need you to sign a contract or...you could be a roomate of someone "of age". Then yeah, go ahead and move out. I moved out when I was 17 and my landlord has never asked me to sign a contract. I just pay the rent and that's it. My parent's didn't give two...craps either so they didn't call the cops. Getting emancipated takes too much time. If you're sure that your parents won't care then it's okay.
