i installed it on the same cables from the old dive, how do i set as master or whatever?

On the back of the drive is a jumper on some pins. There will be a chart, usually on top of drive by it showing you where to place the jumper for the various settings. If youve added it to another drive on the cable set the new drive as slave. If its alone on the cable make sure its set as master. Make sure the side of the IDE cable with the colored line on it is at the end of the slot nearest the 4 pin power plug. If you pulled it out of one drive and put in in the new drive make sure the other end of the IDE cable that plugs into the motherboard is still seated firmly as sometimes they loosen up.

You don't have to set it as a master. I am assuming you have two drives now. The one you put in will also play and burn CDs too. Just give it a try. Hope you installed the software. Good luck.
