This is, of course, one of the most played out topic in the history of human-kind.

Personally, I don't believe in it.
The idea that humans came from the same ancestors as apes and monkeys and whatnot bothers me.
You can post as many facts as you like, but faith is all I have.

I'd like to believe that there is more to life after we all die, who knows, maybe there isn't but it doesn't hurt to try.

It's not a matter of "believing" it. It is one of the most well-documented processes in all of biology, and the theory of evolution is not only one of the strongest theories in the history of science (where by "strongest" I mean, supported by an enormous body of evidence), and not only is it accepted by between 95% to 99% of scientists in biology and *all* branches of science ... but it is considered one of the key unifying ideas of all of biology.

Basically, biology, without evolution, makes no sense.

>"The idea that humans came from the same ancestors as apes and monkeys and whatnot bothers me. "

Why? What do you have against apes and monkeys? To say we have a common ancestor with them *millions* of years back, does not diminish us *one bit*.

>"You can post as many facts as you like, but faith is all I have."

It's tough to argue with that. I'm not sure how you want us to respond ... especially in a science forum.

But I will say that evolution is NOT a challenge to your faith. The people who tell you it is are invariably Biblical literalists with a *very* narrow and ultimately fragile conception of faith ... one absolutely dependent on a simplistic, literal interpretation of the first books of the Bible ... which is a one-way ticket to a crisis in faith ... forcing you to have to choose between faith and science ... which is a completely unnecessary choice.

Please read the following ... it is very short (2 paragraphs). This is a letter signed by over 11,000 Christian clergy members (ministers, priests, deacons, bishops, preachers, etc.) who all support evolution, and do NOT find it incompatible with Christian faith:
http://www.butler.edu/clergyproject/religion_science_collaboration.htm

"Within the community of Christian believers there are areas of dispute and disagreement, including the proper way to interpret Holy Scripture. While virtually all Christians take the Bible seriously and hold it to be authoritative in matters of faith and practice, the overwhelming majority do not read the Bible literally, as they would a science textbook. Many of the beloved stories found in the Bible – the Creation, Adam and Eve, Noah and the ark – convey timeless truths about God, human beings, and the proper relationship between Creator and creation expressed in the only form capable of transmitting these truths from generation to generation. Religious truth is of a different order from scientific truth. Its purpose is not to convey scientific information but to transform hearts.

"We the undersigned, Christian clergy from many different traditions, believe that the timeless truths of the Bible and the discoveries of modern science may comfortably coexist. We believe that the theory of evolution is a foundational scientific truth, one that has stood up to rigorous scrutiny and upon which much of human knowledge and achievement rests. To reject this truth or to treat it as “one theory among others” is to deliberately embrace scientific ignorance and transmit such ignorance to our children. We believe that among God’s good gifts are human minds capable of critical thought and that the failure to fully employ this gift is a rejection of the will of our Creator. To argue that God’s loving plan of salvation for humanity precludes the full employment of the God-given faculty of reason is to attempt to limit God, an act of hubris. We urge school board members to preserve the integrity of the science curriculum by affirming the teaching of the theory of evolution as a core component of human knowledge. We ask that science remain science and that religion remain religion, two very different, but complementary, forms of truth."

why ask if "You can post as many facts as you like, but faith is all I have."

so, i wont post facts ill just rant about you and the other opinions on the mater.

so its more likely two humans who looked just as the way we do today plopped on earth and then inbreed for a few thousand years? Without ugly horrible ****** up mutations.

So why Reject Darwin? Because he is just some guy writing a book? Well guess what buddy the bible was just some guy writing a book and he spent less time thinking about ware people came from and more about making a church.

So you can go though like ignoring the facts, be ignorant, fight with schools, spreading your ignorance to our youth. Protest schools just trying to teach genetics one of the most promising source of medical science. Continue to propagate your bullshit religion by believing the world is flat, earth is the center of the universe, and that there is a all knowing might power that if you don't follow my rules will send you to hell. Yes, I know whats right and you should give me money, because I as a church can not exist unless people pay me mass amounts of there money to feel better about their self.

Yes that is a better way to live your life, don't contribute to a science that saves millions of lives though everything from increased food production, to medicine, that keeps your ****** up 20th century body full of preservatives and saturated fats and alcohol damaged body healthy. Without the science based off evolution western medicine would be in the ground. No vaccines, no penicillin, viruses would have engulfed our planet and our population would not any ware close to what it is now. good thing the rest of the people in the world are not as restarted as your dumb ***.

Now you can continue to argue with rational people that your irrational reasoning for not believing in evolution and be ignored by most. Or some people like me just put on the planet from “god” to test your “faith”. Just like how he put all toughs fossils there to test your “faith” and that the little man behind the curtain knows all about “god” and you shouldn't look for him yourself. And there is no way you should look for “god” in the mysteries of the world. And you would never find “god” any ware but a really old book originally written to describe the seasons and astrology. “god” would never be in the unbelievable beauty of the unkown's of the universe. So look for god in the betterment of society, look for him while trying to fight human progress by contradicting science we already know to be true.

Evolution of species is a fact, no question about it. The exact mechanism of just how evolution brings about change in species is what the theory is about.

As for something happening after death -- not likely, but if it does, it will have more to do with quantum physics than with some judgment, in my opinion.

well u are admitting that facts are irrelevant, so y are u asking for more facts>?

And why is your faith incompatible with evolution? Can't you follow matthew Mark, Luke,a and John, without getting all hung up on Genesis chap 1 and 2?

And there is TONS of stuff in the OT that i guarantee tha tyou reject.
Would you kill a man (or encourage it) for picking up sticks on the sabbath?
Would you kill your mother for wearing 2 different materials?
Would you sacrifice a goat when your 1st son is born?

Prob not. So why do you have to believe every single word of chap1 and 2?

What ever you believe, I'm sure it makes sense for you to believe it.

Believing in evolution does not mean you do not believe there is more to life after you die.
