This is actually a question that has perplexed me once I became familiar w/ Floridian geography as a kid. Jacksonville actually has the largest population out of all the cities in FL. Does that mean that Miami has fewer people 'cause of all the suburbs in it's metro area, e.g. W. Palm Beach, Hialeah, Ft. Lauderdale? Does J'Ville have few suburbs? & what is the economic & geographical significance of the northeastern FL city? If I'm also 2 understand, Jacksonville is actually a few miles from the coast & I think the St. John's River empties there. I'd like some good info on comparisons between Jacksonville & Miami.

Well, Jacksonville is more widespread as the previous said. Jacksonville's suburbs are a few to the south, St. Augustine, a few to the north, and 4-5 along the beaches....Economy, we have 2 naval bases, one being the host of the USS Kennedy......Some parts of Jacksonville are "country" and others are swamp.....and yeah, Jacksonville isn't actually along the coast though is like 1-2 miles away from it.....Along the coast are Jacksonville Beach, Atlantic Beach, Neptune Beach, and Ponte Vedra Beach all being municipalities. In Ponte Vedra Beach, the ATP (pro. tennis) is headquartered there along with a PGA tournament.....There is a Budweiser plant here.....Also a Pilot Pens plant here.....If you know the Winn-Dixie grocery store, well it's headquartered here......Yeah the St. John's river empties in Jacksonville, in fact....that's our North border.......
