in google earth many areas are nicely hi-res satallite pics that enable you to see in good detail and area down to streets, homes and cars on the road. but many areas on google earth where there are popuated areas have crappy resolution, cant make out deatial between houses and streets

i went on a road trip from my home in Indiana to Ithaca NY and planned it out by previewing the highways on google earth but once the images croosed half way into new york state (central NY) i could no longer see but a blur, any ideas why or is google still working to cover the whole earth with deatailed hi-res pics

Usually those areas are less populated, or on the ocean, where detail isn't really needed. GoogleEarth was primarily made to give a rough illustration of the landscape/infrastructure in a populated area.

It could be many reasons, but don't rely on the google earth maps, I looked up my own home on it and although I could see my house, the picture was at least 5 years old because it showed that I still had my swimming pool which I had filled in 5 years earlier.

I don't know how often it updates but don't rely on it for directions.

Google Earth has been gradually adding to its high-resolution data. Some areas that were all blurry a year ago now show individual cars.

lighting, weather, and such...im not sure exactly when Google updates their maps, but it should be soon, as most places are outdated already.
