Make certain first that all your battery connections are clean and tight as a start. I assume that you have a fully charged new battery? Sometimes these batteries have only a % of charge and need a full top off. Beyond that, the clicking indicates that the starter may in fact be faulty and/or not enough voltage/amperage making it to the starter. Typically the solenoid is not receiving enough juice to kick out the starter which makes me think of bad connections in the electrical circuit. Barring that, the next item would potentially be the starter itself. I would bet on the battery....is it brand new (today) or some time a few months ago. If you have a multimeter test it and confirm 12+volts across the terminals. If you see less than 12 in fractions of 2 volts you have a shorted cell in the battery. There are 6 individual cells putting out slightly more than 2 volts each. So if one shorts expect to see around 10 volts on a charged battery. This can happen even with new batteries so verify your voltage. Hope that helps

I agree with Nick Hayley. A lose cable connection at the battery or the starter solenoid will make the starter just click, along with a second bad battery, if that's possible due to it being a used one. When a starter goes bad, it usually gives you some warning - by acting different, or the way it sounds. If its the solenoid that's bad, it will just click too.

assuming your battery is fully charged it sounds like possible starter contacts..try this..turn your headlamps on and shing against a wall so you can see them..try to start your car..if the headlamps go out or are very dim you have a low battery or loose connection..if the starter clicks and the headlamps stay fairly bright you have a bad starter..the contacts inside the starter wear out and cause this condition..it's very common on all toyota's and even lexus cars. sometimes if you keep clicking it over and over it will engage enough to strart the car so you can get it to a shop..

Check with the dealership first, the problem might be security related. Your key might be deprogrammed so the ignition won't recognize it. My wife's SLE is having the same problem, it takes her anywhere between 1 minute to an half-hour to start her car. So my best bet is that the stupid security feature is messed up. I suggest you look into that.
