A cycle is what's contained in one wavelength of a wave, from crest to crest, or trough to trough, etc.

A frequency of 1 Hz is a wave of 1 cycle per second. Just like with AC power or 60 Hz, one complete cycle of 60 Hz is 1/60 of a second.
