I have had especially good luck with two types of houseplants. The first is a Japanese Peace Lily. It only needs watering once every few days, "tells" you when it needs a drink. It starts to look droopy, and if you water it, it is perfect again in a few hours. Also, bamboo is incredibly easy. It doesn't even need soil. I have mine in a narrow glass (kind of like a tall shot glass) in my shower. It loves the humidity. As long as you keep its roots submerged, it will thrive. Mine is about 7 years old now, and 4 of those were its surviving a college dorm...

That all depends where you live. some plants do well by the sea others hate it some do well in shade others like full sun etc so you need to ask at a garden centre or plant nursery and take a look what grows good in your area
