Since the current nomination system is less than 40 years (10 elections) old, there aren't that many elections to compare. As noted in 1980, the top two Republicans did not hold a political office which would make it approximately equal to this cycle. Jimmy Carter was a former governor in 1976 and Walter Mondale was a former vice-president in 1984. I am not sure who was the number two (or if there was a clear number two) in 1976.

I will defer to T Mess, Eric.

Harry I share your disdain for the Bush family but not your love of false information. George H W Bush was elected to the U S House of Representatives in 1966 from the 7th district of Texas. Very rare for a Republican to win in Texas in 1966. He flew combat mission during World War 2 and has served more than one President. I would also say being elected President is not too shabby an accomplishment.

Yes I think so. And McCain is arguably a frontrunner and he is a Senator.

Here's an example

1980
Ronald Reagan, former Governor of California
George Bush, former Ambassador and CIA Director

The current President/Idiot's father never held an elected office before the Presidency. That V.P. crap doesn't count--no one votes for a ticket on that basis.
It's just another good reason not to vote for them. . . .
