If someone died in his sleep, would he ever know that he died?

I think so. When President Ronald Reagan died last year, after years of not being able to speak or understand or take care of his own bodily functions because of Alzheimers, at the last moment he opened his eyes and looked at his wife, the first time he had recognized her--that she knew of--in months. He knew it was his time. In your sleep, I would think that something in the back of your mind would tell you. You might even see, in your sleep, the bright light.

No, probably not. He would need to have some kind of conscious logical thought processes working to be aware of it. In the dream state, a lot of your critical thinking faculties are compromised.

I think that when he tried to wake up from his slumber, and could not, then yeah, he would then know that something was up and things would no longer be as they once were. I hope he had his affairs in order before he went to sleep.

I doubt we can ever really know. Maybe it's like a dream inside a dream, or maybe his thoughts would just slowly fade away into nothing. :-)
