I'm going to be almost 17 (my birthday is November 14) this Halloween and I'm going trick-or-treating. I don't really care if people say I'm too old and deny me candy, either; I'm mostly just going as an excuse to wear the CATS costume I've been working on since January...

It doesn't really matter.
But I guess if you're 19+ you should focus on decorations and giving out candy more. At 18 in the states you're not considered a child anymore, and I think that if you're legally an adult then adults shouldn't really get free candy.
Save it for the children, even though I sound really age-discriminatory.

I don't know the exact age, but 8th grade should be the last year for trick-or-treating. Since 9th grade generally starts high school, that's too old.
