"The Almost Moon" is even better than "The Lovely Bones", which is saying a LOT.
And I'm not the only one who thinks so:

"Perhaps you're tired of reading that this or that novel is 'startling'. Well, too bad. Alice Sebold's new novel, The Almost Moon, really IS startling … my God, it grips. Even with the worst jet lag in the world, I lay awake half the night, feverishly hoping both that it would never end, and that it would all be over soon.'

"This unsentimental account is stunningly done, with details that make one grimace." - Dodie Bellamy 09/21/1999
Salon
"Whether or not you'd go out of your way to read anything that might be classified as a rape memoir, give Alice Sebold your attention for her first five pages and you're in for the whole ride. Written in a fever of unapologetic self-discipline, LUCKY is just about everything you'd expect it not to be. There's no expedition in search of psychic wounds, no yanking at your sleeve to get your conscience into the picture." - Sally Eckhoff 9/27/1999

It's one of the few books that truly deserves the term: a gripping page-turner.
