this sounds stupid but since they were called "IN" messages, does that mean i'm under the "IN" plan ? because i'm not sure what plan i have, and i don't want to go over my text messages.

For most plans, Verizon offers IN Messaging ONLY for customers with the 500 or more messages plan. So, they are just telling you how many of the messages you've sent or received (unlimited for IN Messages) were IN messages. This is just for the purpose of accounting so you know they are not cheating you.

(Unlimited IN Messaging PLUS 500 additional messages
Text, Picture, and Video Messages are now IN! For only $10 Monthly Access, you can get Unlimited Text, Picture, and Video Messages to any other Verizon Wireless customer from within the National Enhanced Services Rate & Coverage Area. PLUS get 500 Additional messages.* )

Check with Verizon to be sure, but I believe they are talking about messages to people "in" the Verizon network. n other words, people who use Verizon.
