I use a hair dryer... it works most of the time, and there is no mess to clean up.

Just set the hair dryer to low heat setting, and move the air across the blemish, back and forth. Do not let the dryer blow continuously in one place... the idea is to warm the finish enough to help the moisture evaporate.

Ive been able to repair many pieces of furniture like this, over the years.
