Beware the figures are the mean average. As there are a few very high earners in London, this boosts the average figures considerably. The minimum wage is far more common.
Something like 8% of wage earners, earn more than the other 92% combined.

As others have said there is a danger in averages as London has great extremes of wealth and poverty both of which are hidden by the average - ie if you have 5 people earning £100,000 and 5 people earning £10,000 the average is £55,000 which doesn reflect either's pay. Its generally far better to go for the median pay which in London is £572 a week or just under £30,000 a year.

the annual wage should be about £30,000 but with London financial boom it is somthing like £50,000 now. the average hourly wage is about £5.34 an hour for the whole country but there are people calling for londons average wage to increase to £6.50 at the expence of the north-east.

The best bet is to buy a daily London newspaper and look in the jobs section. You can pick up most London papers on commuter trains (believe it or not).

£30,000 a year. The rest of the country is supposed to be £25,000. Where the government get their figures from no idea.
