I don't think we are getting closer, but I did read that the earth did change it's tilt slightly. If so this could mean hotter summers, and colder winters. Unless the earth suddenly slowed down in orbit speed, then if we got closer, the seasons would be shorter.
It is an interesting thought.

IT'S NOT GLOBAL WARMING. GLOBAL WARMING IS LONG TERM AND IT'S EFFECTS WILL NOT BE NOTICED FOR A FEW HUNDRED YEARS. You're just experiencing above average temperatures. I recently answered a similar question just before and cities have experienced above average temperatures like this since records begin in the 1800's. I'm from a suburb of New York City and the last 90 degree day was on October 20. This occurred in 1939. This is rare but not unknown. It's not the end of the world. By mid to late next week fall weather is expected to return with a cold front moving southwestward from Southeastern Canada. Temperatures behind this front are 10-20 degrees cooler than the temperatures ahead of the front. I don't know what part of the mid west you're in but in Chicago by Wednesday the high is only going to be 59F. In Minneapolis Tuesday it's gonna be 55F. In Indianapolis by Wednesday it's going to be 63F. So as you can realize from what i told you, fall weather is coming. It's probably gonna stay that way. You'll be wanting the warm weather back. So you have nothing to worry about.
