I am having trouble releasing the spring from it. Any tips would be very much appreciated.

The system is dry and I checked the gauge and it is said that there is no pressure. The dryer is rusted at the bottom so that is why I am replacing it.

I hope you have lot's of trouble. If the system is charged you have 100 + psi behind the connection. Why would you want to replace the dryer ?? You are apparently not experienced at a/c work. You can be seriously injured if you don't know what you are doing. It takes a special tool to release the spring in the fitting. What is your a/c problem and maybe you can save some money and some grief
