I'm in in high school taking alg.2,I'm having trouble with one problem for homework, so how do you solve 6(3x-2)-2(5x=1)=22
the answer I got was 4 1/2, but someone said its wrong so can someone help me check it and tell me the answer you get?

I got 4. Here's how:

6(3X-2)-2(5X-1)=22 First clear parentheses.
18X-12-10X+2=22 Combine like terms.
8X-10=22 Solve for X
8X=32
X=4

Assuming that first equals sign should be a minus...

6(3x-2)-2(5x-1)=22 Do the Disributive property
18x-12-10x+2=22 Combine like terms
8x-10=22 Add 10 to both sides
8x=32 Divide by 8 on both sides
x=4

You wrote 6(3x - 2) -2(5x = 1) = 22. I don't know if you meant 5x -1 or 5x + 1. But since the keaboard shows the + and = as lower and upper case as the same key, I'll assume it is 5x + 1

6(3x - 2) - 2(5x + 1) = 22
18x - 12 -10x - 2 = 22
18x -10x = 22 +12 + 2
8x = 36
x = 4.5

That is the same answer you got, well, let's check it

6(3(4.5) - 2) - 2(5(4.5) + 1) = 22
18(4.5) - 12 -10(4.5) -2 = 22
81 - 12 - 45 -2 = 22
22 = 22

Yep, that's right. Answer is 4.5 or 4 1/2

Not at all. Here's how: x^2-8x+12=0 First you find what the terms at each end multiply to get. x^2 * 12=12x^2 You then find two terms which multiply to give you 12x^2 and add to give you -8x These are -2x and -6x. Proof (-2x) + (-6x) = -8x -------> -2x * -6x = 12x^2 You then substitute the -8x with the two terms in the equation x^2 -2x -6x + 12 = 0 Factorise by grouping (x^2 -2x) + (-6x + 12) = 0 x(x - 2) -6(x - 2) = 0 (x - 2)(x - 6) = 0 x=2 or x=6

this is all about the distributive property
take 6(3x-2) and you multiply each value inside the parentheses by 6 so you would get 18x - 12
then do the same for -2(5x - 1) and get -10x + 2 just remember that you would multiply by -2 and not 2

so then put those 2 figures together and have
18x - 12 -10x + 2 = 22

then combine like terms 8x - 10 = 22
then get x by itself 8x = 32
x=4

hope this helps =D

6(3x-2) -2(5x-1) = 22 -- Distributive property
(18x-12) -(10x -2) = 22 -- Distribute the (-1)
18x - 12 - 10x + 2 = 22 -- Combine "Like Terms"
8x -10 = 22 -- Additive prop, add 10 to both sides
8x = 32 -- Divide both sides by 8
x = 4

First I will assume the "5x=1" is a typo and should be "5x+1" ...

6(3x-2)-2(5x+1)=22
18X-12-10X-2=22
8X-14=22
X=36/8
X=4.5

assuming the 5x=1 was 5x+1, i also got 4.5 and dont see how it can be done either way. who told you you're wrong? a teacher or student?

It's definately correct because my graphing calculator confirms it.

a great way to check is plug your answer into x and see if you get 22. 4.5 gets you 22

it depends...if you meant a minus sign after the 5x, your wrong. it would be 4
but if you meant a plus sign after the 5x, your right
