My 6 month old ferret loves to swim in the bathtub, but he decides to see if he can swim under water, is it safe for him to have his head under water to try and swim?

Yes he will come up when he needs to, put a towel in there hooked to the faucet so he has access to climb up or toys he can climb onto and always supervise. Mine loved the tub. up to 6 at a time lol. You can also use a kiddie pool but surround it with towels they will go in and out and have a blast (protect from chills and remove access to litter boxes or close cage so they cant get in the litter)

I have two ferrets, and had one years ago. I used to bring my old ferret in the swimming pool with me, and she loved it. It is also fun to bring them into the shower with ya. They will run around lik crazy, and everything, but also like being picked up under the ray of the water in the shower to be held and played with them. It's perfectly safe though... as long as they do come back up... lol

It is perfectly fine, they love diving and if it's only in a dish full of water. I put out a large cake carrier full of water for mine. It's about 1 1/2 inches deep. I throw toys and pieces of treats into the water for them to dive for. Try that and then watch them closely. You will notice how they fold their ears back to close off the ear canal. Of course it's always a good idea to check their ears frequently, for mites, dirt and anything else that could be going on with your ferret, but diving and snorkeling does not increase the risk of anything happening to your ferret. Enjoy! They love it and it's great enrichment.

it is common. some love water, some hate it. Watch his ears whilst he does it. See if he "closes" them, flattens them up so water can't get in. however they don't look to be very heavily appropriate, they are on the subject rely of mink. Mink are fish and frog eaters, love water...ferrets, some do, some do not. Their ancestor, the polecat, has been common to consume frogs on social gathering. in case you get a cat litterpan and fill it with water, then positioned some toys in the backside (the cat jingle balls artwork nicely) you will locate him bypass underwater together with his head and "fish" for the toys. he will like it. Digging around the water bowl is ordinary, too. Then attempting to tip it over, and licking water from the floor.

its perfectly fine. mine loves water(or anything liquid). he will actually try to put his head in a full cup of soda. ferrets are very curious animals and he probably just wants to know what on the bottom of the tub. theres nothing wrong, dont worry let him play.
if he likes water that much let him take showers with you. im sure he'll do a his "happy dance" and attack any kind of shampoo bottle thats on the bottom, and watch out for your feet, there game too.

Yeah, mine do this all the time, even in the water dishes in their cage! It's usually referred to as 'snorkeling.' He'll be fine, they know when to come up for air. Just don't ever leave him unattended when swimming in the tub. They are good swimmers, but you never know when something might go wrong. You don't want your little guy to drown!

Yes, they hold their breaths just like we do.
One of the fun games mine liked to play was I'd put a dishpan of fresh water down on the floor and float his toys in it (bottle caps and things) or throw a couple of raisins into it. He'd snorkle his head down into the water and weave it back and forth feeling for it (eyes closed). Had a lot of fun with it.
I'd only do that just before I sponge mopped the kitchen floor, so the mess was actually useful.

my ferrets do it all the time specially my biggest girl likes diving head first in water and she will stay under for like 30 secs or so and come up and go swimmin quiet funny if u ask me

as long as he swims, if he knos how he can do what ever he wants. i had 2 ferrets and one of them would just roll over. he didnt kno how to swim very well.

he won't keep his head under water longer than he wants to... any more than you would. you could try letting him swim in the sink instead, so that he can climb out easily.
