I'm Filipino, but I was born and raised in the States (California to be exact), and my parents never really got around to teach me much Tagalog. Well my mom told me to send this song to my girlfriend, it's by a Filipino singer called Florante and the song is called "Pinay", and she said it'd make my girlfriend happy. I just want to know what the lyrics translate to in English, before I send it to my girlfriend (who does understand Tagalog)

Here's a site with the lyrics:

Here it is:

Dapat ka bang mangibang bayan? (Should you move to a foreign land?)

Dito bay wala kang paglagyan? (Don't you have a place here?)

Tungkol sa bebot ditoy maraming okey. (About girls, we have lots of good ones here)

Dito ang kelot ay kulang (Here there are not enough boys)

Bakit pa iiwanan ang lupang tinubuan? (So why leave your native land?)

Dito ka natuto ng iyong mga kalokohan. (It is here where you learned those foolish things)

Baka akala moy ganoon lamang ang mamuhay sa ibang bayan, (You might think living in a foreign land is that easy)

at kung ikaw ay mag-aasawa ang kunin mo ay pilipina (And when you marry, pick a Filipina)

pagkat magaganda ang mga pinay. (Because Filipinas are beautiful)

Sa bahay man silay mahuhusay. (In household chores, they're good)

Kumustahin kung manamit, okey lang (See how they dress, it is okay)

at kung umibig ay lalong okey ang pinay (And in love, they are more than ok)

Bakit pa iiwanan ang lupang tinubuan? (see above)

Dito ka natuto ng iyong mga kalokohan. (see above)

Baka akala moy ganoon lamang ang mamuhay sa ibang bayan, (see above)

at kung ikaw ay mag-aasawa ang kunin mo ay pilipina (see above)

pagkat magaganda ang mga pinay. (see above)

Sa bahay man silay mahuhusay. (see above)

Kung minsan ay selosa rin ang pinay (Sometimes, Filipinas are jealous)

pagkat ang selos ay tanda lang ng pagmamahal ng pinay (Because jealousy is but a sign of a Filipna's love)

I will not translate it literally but will give you the gist of the song. It's actually telling Pinoys that they don't need to go to any foreign country to find their prospective mates. The best ladies are right there in the Philippines. The song is actually a testament to all Pinays - how they make excellent wives because not only will they love you but will take care of the house as well. So you'll actually get a perfect lover and a homemaker. Finally it cautions you about the jealous nature of the Pinays, which is actually good coz it means she really loves you.
