I bought a router. I have Vonage too. If I set up this router, will other older computers in the house be able to connect to the internet. Do they need some kind of special card or something, or can I just set up the router and we're all good to go? The router is a Linksys wireless. I have Earthlink DSL on the puter. Thanks. I sure am dumb about these things.

First you have to configure the router to connect to Earthlink DSL. go to www.broadbandreports.com for specific instructions. Then you will need to connect the ethernet ports on your PC's to the ports on the linksys router. You need Cat 5 ethernet patch cords to do this.

After that you should be good to go.

The router will need to connect to the other computers via a network adapter. If you've got a wireless router, find out which wireless Network Interface Card is compatible and buy one for each computer not physically connected to the router via a wire.

To connect wirelessly, each computer will need a wi-fi adapter. These can be in the form of a USB dongle, a PCMCIA card (for laptops) or a PCI card. These cards talk to the wireless router to transfer the data. Most wireless routers allow four wired connections also.

Any machine with an ethernet card can use the router. Any machine without one can be fitted with a card from any computer store.
