“Do the gods love piety because it is pious, or is it pious because they love it.”

whats the differnece between the two. and what would be an example of the second one?

The state or quality of being pious, especially:
Religious devotion and reverence to God.
Devotion and reverence to parents and family: filial piety.
A devout act, thought, or statement.

A position held conventionally or hypocritically.

====Since it is in referance to those who serve the god(s) it is not about how the god(s) feel it is how "man" relates to the god(s).
