This may be a silly question But Im going to go ahead and ask it anywise. Im 3 days past my due date as of today. When I went to my last appointment I was 2 cms dialted and My doctor had said that My cervix was soft. I've been in some much pain and asked to be induced yesterday. My doctor said that they dont induce on the weekend unless its an emercency... And She wants me to wait until Tuesday to set up an appoinment for getting induced.... My question is Shouldnt once you hit 40 weeks inducement be your decesion? I dont want to want till tuesday. Because most likley the appoinment will be Set for Friday... And I aint going to make it much longer... I think It should be My choice I mean after all Im the one in pain and Im the one paying them to take care of me. What do you all think...

With induction comes additional risk so, no, you can't just demend to get one because you're uncomfortable. That would be like asking for a c-section when you had no medical reason for it.

Believe me, every pregnant woman feels as you do near the end. You are tired and achy and just plain fed up with being huge and uncomfortable. I feel your pain - been there and done that 3 times!

The only thing to do is keep waiting. It's hard, but just take one day at a time. It's better for your baby, trust me.

No, once you hit 40 weeks, inducing is not your decision. It's a medical procedure that can increase your risk of some complications.

You're lucky you only have to wait until Tuesday...where I live, the Regional Health Authority policy is that no one is induced except for emergency reasons until they are past 40 weeks, and after that, you are on a waiting list, and if any emergencies come in in advance of you, you get bumped. The further you go past due, up to 42 weeks, the higher you go on the priority list.

Unless you or your baby are in medical peril, there is no reason to be induced simply because you've reached 40 weeks.

Sorry you're frustrated, I know that it sucks to go past due. I've only ever gone a day past due, and that was bad enough.

We all get very, very uncomfortable at the end...but with experience, you realize that when you are that uncomfortable, it means the end of your pregnancy is very near.

Hold tight and good luck. Chances are good that you could go into labour on your own before Tuesday anyway! :)

being nduced is your choice, but the dr. can override your decision. I was induced at 41 weeks and 2 days.
The dr. is only trying to make sure you have a safe and healthy delivery, sometimes you will go into labor waiting to be induced, and that is better then being induced.... trust me .. when iw as induced it was the most painful experience..more so then actually going through labor.. first i had them place the cervacil in (a devise that spits out medicine behind your cervix (most painful when they place it!!!!!) it stayed in there for 12 hours releasing medicine to make my cervix soften up...didnt work..then i got 3 gels injected..hurt more then anything!!! i had to lay down for the 8 hours not move or get up or pee or aything because the gels would run out... however those didnt work either..so after 2 days i had finally been given pitocin... which soften my cervix, but didnt make me dialate... we ended up haveing a c section.. so after all the pain of doing all that and being in labor for 61/2 hurs...i got a c section...
sucks but i would say wait until your dr. tells you to get induction..they know whats best

Interesting argument, but no. IMO, inductions and c-sections should never be done on demand for the sole reason of relieving maternal discomfort. There are always risks associated with induction - which is essentially forcing your body to do something it was not quite ready to do on it's own. The medications bring risks, the added interventions like artificially breaking your water brings risks, etc. It is preferred, for good reason, to try to allow the body to do it naturally.

Any doctor who complies with a patient's demand they perform invasive medical procedures that aren't medically necessary isn't a doctor with good medical ethics, and I wouldn't want them as my doctor.

You are speaking like a woman who is truly fed up with being pregnant - and you're not alone. What you're feeling and thinking is totally normal. It sucks to be overdue and uncomfortable and in pain. But it's all temporary, and what's best for your baby is to wait it out just a little bit longer. They already said they will induce in just two more days. Hopefully your body will take care of itself before then.

Good luck, and congrats in advance.

Why are you in such a hurry to induce? Wouldn't you rather have a natural progression of labor? (Unless there are dangerous circumstances, of course) Using drugs like pitocin to speed up or induce labor results in more painful contractions.

My advice: enjoy being pregnant while it lasts - once baby is here, you won't get a moment to think to yourself.
