when I hit 38 and 55 mph there's a low whistle or howl sound til I get a few mph higher or lower than those speeds. It could also me the turbo engine the car has. I just bought a used vw Jetta wagon and it drives great, but is faint whistle anything to get checked out? The dealer said he thinks it's the new tires and I should bring it in within a week if it bugs me and he'll try 16 " wheels with thicker (regular) tires?
Do you think it's the turbo engine at those specific speeds?
Why would the new tires make a low hum like that only at those 2 speeds? It could also be the roof rack, but since it's only at 38 and 55 mph, I don't think so.
Experts? Good guesses?
Thank You

I forgot to say: The low whistle is on the left side and seems towards the front. It's not that loud, but noticeable to someone obsessive like me.
I haven't been able to tell yet if it's a tire, the engine, the roof rack, or something else.

Could be your wheel bearings or CV joint to me, if wheels are making noise its because of tracking.

Tires usually don't make a whistling noise. The noise coming from tires varies because of different tread patterns and sometimes road conditions. The whistle you hear if at the same speed could be a vacuum leak in the dash or even in the brake booster. It possibly could be the roof rack but I'm leaning towards a vacuum leak. Try hitting your brakes just slightly and see if it changes. If not try moving your temperature control

Unusual noise for a tire. If it is that localized and you want to rule out the tires rotate them. Switch the fronts side-to-side or switch them front-to-back, whichever. If the noise moves its the tires. If it doesn't move, it is not the tires.
