The age of Imperialism was on it's death bed at the beginning of the 20th Century. The buzz word was retained as a propaganda tool by the Comintern.

If Americans were Imperialists, Japan, Indo-China and Western Europe would all be paying taxes to Washington.

And the life-style of Mexicans would be equal to that of Southwest US citizens.

Oh, and yes, we'd be getting Iraqi oil for free.

I have said for sometime that when I despair for America I remind myself that we are the only nation in history to conquer the world and willing get out of it faster than we got into it. However, something that smacks of imperialism is going on. Corporate Imperialism? God, if all those bad scifi stories about corporate wars turn out to be right, I think I'll take to wearing sackcloth and ashes. Still, THE MERCHANTS OF SPACE was a fine book.

I think that someone could make a good case for imperialism during the 19th Century, for instance when we annexed Texas, but I personally would not call that imperialism, because we made them citizens, not a resource for the motherland.

Like the other people, other countries that have called us imperialists were usually guilty of it themselves. Particularly the Soviets, the Japanese, etc.

And, by that definition, how about taking the lands of Native Americans (particularly those with which the United States had treaties limiting expansion into Native American lands?

No, no one. They can't, as it would be fabricated, a fairy tale. There is no American Imperialism.
Check your dictionary (Websters) to see what the word means.
