The problem is, (that is if you are not trying to get pregnant) that your cycle may suddenly become a week longer and then it's risky business having unprotected sex when on a normal cycle sex at that time would not have meant a pregnancy.
It isn't true that you can get pregnant anytime -it just isn't. There is only a period of about a week every cycle that you can actually get pregnant. BUT you need to know your body very, very well to know when that week is -because it can shift from month to month -especially if you are even a little irregular. It's not worth the risk if you don't want to get pregnant.
