I'm pretty sure there must be a dead mouse or bat in my [interior] wall. Any ideas about how to get it out? Do I have to demolish that section of the wall?

I (and one of my cats) heard the scratching inside the wall one night, and I assumed my cat, who was fixated witht staring at that part of the wall, would catch it. The mouse must have never come out and now I can smell rotting flesh. Ewww.

Please help.

Most likely not a mouse if you were hearing it. Good bet it is a possum, raccoon or even a cat.

I assume you are on a crawl space, so I would suggest getting a heavy plastic bag and flashlight, and having a look under your home. This can be done by an exterminator for about $150.00 to $250.00. Save the $$ and crawl under your home for a look.

Access can be outside or in the floor of a closet. good luck

If you can smell it, it's probably something larger than a mouse. Mice will dry out pretty quickly. If you see a wet stain on your wall in the next few days, you will need to cut that section of drywall out and replace it (after removing the carcass).

Burn a few scented candles, spray some febreze and see what develops.

Don't demolish the wall. Call an exterminator who has plenty of experience doing this.

It will smell for a while but eventually it will disintegrate and disappear. Mean while use some air freshener.
Don*t bother tearing your house apart; it is no big deal
