Depression is a chemical imbalance in the brain, but even my doctor does not know which comes first, a precipitating event that leads to a chemical change in the brain or a chemical change in the brain which leads to depression. Maybe it is both. Depression is definitely NOT psychocomatic. It is not something one can control. If you believe you may be depressed, see a doctor. Also, October 11 is National Depression Screening Day, perhaps you could get screened in your area? Good luck.

It's, scientifically, a chemical misbalance in the brain. That's why most depression medications are serotonin re-uptake inhibitors, meaning your brain keeps bouncing around its serotonin (the feel good chemical) instead of absorbing it. That way, your S. levels are high and you tend to feel better.
