Should I get a forensic science or chemistry degree?

I heard that a forensic science degree is bad if you plan on working as a forensic chemist and that I should get a chemistry degree instead? Is that true and why or why not? Thanks. If I end up getting a chemsitry degree what other options of work are available?

I would go for chemistry, and then if you still want to you can probably add forensic chemistry since most of the credits would cross over. That way if the forensic falls out, you have the more general one to fall back on. And if the forensic field is flooded when you get there then you will have a notch up by also having the more general stuff under your belt.

I've heard that with all of these shows like CSI and the like, forensics is becoming flooded as a field (they find out later that it's NOT like what they see on TV, but then it's too late). I'd go for the regular chemistry degree.

The chemistry degree is more broad and will likely give you more options; that, in my opinion, is its primary advantage.

There's a general dearth of chemists these days (mainly because everybody's in biology); which is a good thing if you have a chemistry degree, because it'll be easier for you to find jobs, and jobs that you want.
