a parent can give their consent for the "CHILD" to marry? How is this right to make a choice for a child? I see this on marriage certificates from the 70s and 80s under records search. What is wrong with that parent?

I don't think anyone should be getting married that is under 18. Not even if they are pregnant.

The 70s and 80s were different. The law was different.I grew up in the 70s and 80s and the world wasnt like it is now.More people stalking kids .Now if you are 18 and you date a 15 or 16 year old they can lock you up.And give you like 20 years in prison for rape.I know that sounds redicious but its the truth. The parents are usually the ones that push the issues.

In today's society, the person having relations with the under-18 child can be prosecuted and be made to register for the rest of their life in every city they live in as a sex offender.

Could be the reason some of them married. Ever heard of a shotgun wedding? Very likely the reason, either pregnancy, or the gir's no longer being a virgin.

There could be many reasons, but these probably top the list.

you have a very valid point there, but like the attorney says...it is a loophole and it was used mainly to keep illigitemit babies from over populating the earth. Now we have no concern about that, moreso our concern is about the health of the mommas and babies health. They say heck with Morals, I do applaud that they commend health issues, because there were a lot of mothers who died needlessly (backstreet abortions) because the parent wouldnt sign a marriage agreement and FORCED their daughters into abortion. :(
Back then it was highly shameful. To me, its highly shameful that they would kill their grandbaby or risk killing their own child rather than be shamed.!

Some parents let their children marry because it's better to agree than lose their child forever.

That's called a loophole. You should be a lawyer. We use them all the time.

Good luck.
