Don't do it, it is not worth the effort or the image quality.
Assuming you can bypass Macrovision, the quality of VHS to DVD is pretty bad. You can probably buy pre-viewed DVDs of the movies from rental places at very good prices.

No matter what recorder you buy, use the highest possible video recording quality.

Try either of these:

If I understand you correctly: You can tape your programs on the TIVO and then there is a selection to tape to the DVD right on the TIVO screen that you look at to watch the programs.

I have the Pioneer and it is really good. When I was out of town and away from my TIVO for a while I taped all my shows and movies to a DVD and watched it on my computer while I was gone!

You can also buy an Apple TV (It is very reasonable!!!!). You can burn your DVDs to it and then you just access it like you would access a dong on your I-Pod! It is cool! See it here:

Hopefully one of these solutions will help you!

If you are trying to transfer from VCR Tapes, I don't think it will work. There is something done to the VCR tapes, so you can copy it. Best thing to do if when a movie comes out on DVD get it. You may have to wait for some to be re-released.
