They don't have to agree with me, just have to be intelligent/witty/insight/well-researched. That just doesn't seem to happen very often on the "other" side. I don't ask a lot of questions, but on that rare occasion, rather than a vibrant discussion from the loyal opposition, I tend to get one word answers, insults, or talking points. Very rarely does someone research a few facts or even express an opinion that doesn't sound like it came straight from the PR department's press release.

I just voted a big fat No Best Answer to someone who answered my question with very little insight and a belligerently condescending attitude to boot.

In general, the quality of discussion on this section of YA has degraded considerably over the last year or so. I no longer read and post in the hopes of finding information or engaging in serious discussion. Purely for amusement value now, I read and thus pour gasolline on the already raging fire of my misanthropy.

The travel section's worse - for every person trying to find a hotel in Sharm el Sheikh, there are 20 posts from native Egyptians just chatting with each other.

Probably most people. I know I do sometimes, but I try to give BA to people who disagree with me, and I have. It seems that when I give a good, intelligent answer that I believe is the best answer, it always ends up being the person who gives the most unintelligent answer that sucks up to the person asking the question that gets it.

Some do and some don't. Some people ask a question on here just to find people that agree with them. Others are truely looking for information.

It's great to have an open mind and actually be receptive to other ideas but I don't see a lot of that happening on this forum. I'd guess the majority of people ask questions only to have their view and opinions validated.

Personally, I think things would be really dull if we all agreed on everything. I tend to answer questions that I think are interesting, regardess of political slant (or lack thereof) for any particular question.

I frequently give 'best answer' to people I disagree with. Usually what I'm looking for is an honest answer. Someone can disagree with me and still be honestly cognizant of the issue, and responsive to it in their thinking.

Most of the time, but if someone I disagree with has a good answer and doesn't resort to name calling or insults they can get it if it's the best. Just doesn't happen very often.
