An awful lot of our troops would be shot in the back while they were leaving.

It would create a vaccum that would create more terrorists because of the anger from the innocents that are depending on us.
We would witness genocide like the killing fields in Cambodia but I'm afraid it would be on a grander scale.
You would show the world that they are right about America losing the courage they had during WWII and can no longer finish what they start.
You would give the terrorists more time to plan how to attack our soil since they wouldn't have to be concentrating on Iraq.
You would make Ahmadinejad a very happy man.
We would be back there within a few years, so you're only delaying the inevitable.
I know there's more but that's the basics.
No different from 2-3 years ago. Who's to say about 5 years. Since the surge is working I don't think it will take that long, though I do see American bases there like there are in Saudi, Korea, Germany, and Japan.
EDIT:RARETOFIND, unless you have been there or have someone who has or is, please don't think you speak for them. I have a son and a niece, plus numerous friends; they want to finish their job and are miserable when they are not there.

There would be a brief period of major bloodshed while the country separated itself into the 3 countries it always wanted to be. The terrorists would claim that they had won, which they will do now or in ten years. Two or three years ago, there would not have been time to build up such a large group of international terrorists and would have been limited to the Shiite-Sunni conflict. There's also a possibility that Iran would invade to give the power to their faction of Muslims, perhaps absorbing a large chunk of the country at the same time.
And for those of you who believe we can wipe out terrorism by staying there, what about the terrorists in Britain, Spain, and Southeast Asia? They didn't come from Iraq. They came from the madrassas and by being recruited by terrorists where they live. It's like saying we can wipe out all sharks by killing all the sharks in the Mediterranean.

The majority of Iraqi's want the US out. How would we feel if another country invaded us? We couldn't wait for them to leave so we could have our lives back. But the wealthy big oil republicans Dick Cheney and friends need the US Military to protect their new oil properties while US citizen's get none of the oil profits, pay taxes for oil war, and $3 gas to support the Grand OiL Good OiL NeoRepublicans.

You would leave behind millions of Iraqis who simply do not want you there. and never mind this "civil war" nonsense. No one, and I mean no one, especially our government has any idea whatsoever who is responsible for all of the killing in Iraq.
We don't even know if the killings attributed to "car bombs" were caused by them or not. Many could well be the US targeting those people. Anyone with an ounce of sense knew Blackwater was acting with impunity...and since they were, they were killing indiscriminately. Period.
If we leave, so be it. My guess if that the Iraqis would much rather be engaged in conflict with their OWN rather than the United States any day.
Let those people take care of their own. The U.S. has already done enough damage.
The United States can't even take care of its own borders.
Just think.
Just think....If we had used those billions and billions of dollars to protect our OWN............
rather than sticking our noses AND our funds in a drainage pipe halfway across the world...
pathetic.
Tiny...
you see a FEW wanting to go back. Wonder why? Do you think they want they really want to be re-injured or that they want someone to finish the job on them silly.
No. They know how long it takes to get benefits here......and they know few employers want to deal with them and their injuries.
Period.
Think..

right now iraq is only different because the usa has troops there. as soon as we withdrawl troops there will be problems there agian and it will slowly return to how it was before or possibly worse because now we added another political party into the chaos. so regardless of whether or not we leave today or gradualy over 5 yrs or whatever, it will be the way it was or worse.

What would happen? Well possibly, we'd be able to take the tax money spent on each 24 hour period for the war and insure 200,000 children's healthcare for 1 year. In one year of savings not spent on the war, we could insure 7.3 million American children for 1 year. Just a thought.

It would be more hell for the people, probably slaughters but not as bad as it is now with our troops there and it would work its way through. The horrors of yesterday, today and tomorrow, in very large part, are the fault of Americans and, most specifically, the Bush administration.

The same thing that will happen if we stay 20 years: there will be a period of chaos, after which one or another faction will take control and restore order.
The difference is tha ta lot fewer American soldiers and Iraqis would die if we pulled out now.
Oh, yeah--and Blackwater, Haliburton, and the rest of Bush's friends wouldn't be able collect all that blood money.
