Is it possible to tell the difference between male and female harlequins?

Can you tell if a female harlequin is pregnant?

If yes to the latter, can you separate them and then how do you care for the eggs?

Yes, you can separate them. You care for the eggs VERY CAREFULLY. There are VERY fragile, even though they may or may not seem like it.

The female will have a much wider, whiter stomach area (because she is carrying eggs). These fish are very difficult to breed (the eggs are not very hardy at all), so be prepared for multiple failures before you get a successful spawn. Move the Harlequin Rasboras into their own tank where they can deposit their eggs so the male can fertilize them. After the eggs are fertilized, remove the parents (they will eat the eggs if they aren't separated). Keep your temperature VERY stable and keep the water VERY clean. If you are lucky, you might get a viable batch.
