Just relax. Drop some of those extracurricular activities. It takes a while to get use to high school. You really need to talk to your parents. Tell them how bad you feel and how it is probably affecting your grades.

Believe me... it's the stress and your fear of failing. Not because you can't make the grades. You keep second guessing yourself and make mistakes. Tell your folks and they will help you calm down. They are high achievers too and have been around others in the same boat, if they haven't done it themselves. Trust them.

If you were in a boat that was sinking, you wouldn't plug the one inch hole but the five inch hole. Your extracurricular activities is the one inch hole and not that important. I would say, "Absolutely" not important as a freshman. Work on your grades and get out of those extra activities. You can always go back to them once you get your feet on the ground.

And I would say drop each and EVERY one of them.

Okay take a REALLY big breath. This situation happened to me my freshmen year. On my report card, I got 2 B's and a C- in Geometry. It was awful. I was so depressed and I had so much pressure to do well in school and in sports that I thought I was going to die. I've never done that bad on a report card before and I kept thinking that I'll never get a good job if I do bad in High school. I promise you that you will NOT end up at McDonald's with 2 B's and a C-. McDonald's is for people who didn't finish high school. If you can't get your art grade up, transfer out of the class and do a different elective. It's not the end of the world, grades aren't everything. Your life is much more important. Please don't give up on yourself, get some art help. I got a tutor for Geometry and it improved my grade. Talk to your parents about how you feel, they'll never know that your feeling suicidal unless you tell them. I think they'll be more ashamed if you gave up on yourself and quit (die) then if you just stick with it and get through the year. You will go to college and you will succeed.

Ok first of all, CALM DOWN. It's high school- not life. Yes, you want to do well in high school, but having lower grades than you're used to is just something you're going to have to deal with! High school is a lot harder than middle school, and you're just going to have to learn to adjust.
If you feel like you never have any down time, then drop one or more of your extra curriculars so you can relax once ina while.
Also, you n eed to talk to your parents!! Do you really think your parents just breezed through high school and college and got such great grades? I don't think so. Talk to them, and tell them you feel like you';re under too much pressure. I"m pretty sure they'll have some solutions fo ryou.
And finally, Ivy League schools do not guarantee a successful career. Nor does it guarantee a lack of success if you go to another school. Start thinking realistically, and look for other possibilities for schools. To be honest, going to an Ivy League school for basic stuff is a waste of money- I know a lot of people who have gone to community colleges for their basic classes and still do very well when they transfer to a university and into the career world. You really need to be more realistic!

First, take a deep breath . . .
Now, here's the dirty little secret nobody wants you to know: It's not necessary to go to an Ivy League school to succeed. In fact, if you did a study of the most successful people in whatever field you're interested in, I'll bet you'd find that most of them are not Ivy League grads. (Actually, that might be a way to help your parents relax about this as well).

It's good that you study. But too much study can be counter-productive. You get so tired that you can no longer absorb the information. Try studying in short bursts with breaks in between. I bet you'll find that you can accomplish more in less time.

And give yourself a break. You're doing great!

Your stress is self imposed. You are only a freshman early in the year. You sound like you work very hard so everything will come together! High school does and should kick the requirements up a notch to prepare you for college. Work on your self talk. You don't suck at art. You are just average but have the discipline to work hard to master the basic techniques. Bottom line is, it is too early to freak out over grades. Just keep working hard!
Good Luck

Hey..first take a deep breath and calm down. Just because you didn't do up to your standards (you didnt even do bad), you still have the whole year to make up for it. And it seems like your parents are putting way too much pressure on you. And trust me..if you cant go to an ivy league college it really means nothing. Its like buying a shirt for 100 dollars made of the same materials as a 20 dollar shirt.

CALM DOWN! A lot of times freshmen just are really surprised and arent expecting high school to be that hard. Im a jr, trust me, its hard. But I think you just have to much on your plate. Drop a club. It really could make a difference and even though extra curriculars are important to colleges, grades are the most. Good luck and God bless.

dude calm down i noe how stressful it is to have successful parents im only a sophomore and in freshman yr i had the biggest stress attack

my advice is that dont be worried freshman yr is a time to get used to your skool and to get to meet new friends ur just destroying yourself by stressing i noe because i graduated first in my class in middle skool and have always had an A
when i got to high skool i got b's and c's but the only reason was cuz i was stressing out cuz i thought my parents wanted me to become the greatest and thats y i didnt tell them about it

I was really stressed then i met w/ my counselor meet w/ him or her and listen to them they will tell u the same thing just calm down ur only in high skool once so have a lil fun

oh and tell ur parents they want u to do good but no parent wants to see their kid stress out like a 45 yr old in debt
and just cuz they went to harvard doesnt mean u have to

or any ivy league college in my family ppl have gone to ivy league skools and I in no way am going because my career is something that the ivy league skool cant compete w/

astronomy is my career so really its ur decision i bet u can find a better skool that isnt ivy league that would be better suited for ur career

oh and lighten up dont worry, be happy = )
